Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira King
Hi Kira, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I are both Savannah natives. We attended Catholic schools until college when we attended the University of Georgia. We both grew up playing sports, but I also rode horses off and on as a child. Through this, I developed a deep love of horses and always knew I wanted to live on a farm one day. After a brief riding hiatus, I jumped headfirst back into horses while in college when my mother told me I needed to look for a job. I found one at a local stable and worked my way up to Barn Manager. Arthur had never been around horses, but he’s always loved animals so it wasn’t a hard transition for him to start appreciating them too. Early in my senior year of college, my family bought a horse for me to train so that my younger siblings could also ride. They never did get into riding, but Willow, my draft cross mare, is still with us 12 years later. Shortly thereafter, Arthur bought a horse too, and a year later, he ended up proposing to me on that horse.
Arthur and I have been together since we were 14 years old. We’ve gone to school together since we were four, and our grandmothers were good friends. Savannah is a growing town, but it has a small-town feel, especially in the Catholic community. We always knew we wanted to own a little homestead/farm. It initially started as a place for our horses to be in our backyard, but it quickly grew to a diversity of plants and animals and now children. The lessons children learn on a homestead/farm are immeasurable. We see its fruits already in our 5-year-old daughter. If it was up to her, she’d never come inside. She has too much fun playing with our Livestock Guardian Dogs, Pearl and Opal, and our pet potbelly pig, Cora. She helped us with our goats while they birthed their first set of babies this year, and she was in heaven. She stayed up late into the night with us to witness the birth of four, healthy and strong Nubian kids, and now she helps us milk their mother. Besides love and responsibility, a homestead grounds you. It reminds you what’s important in this world. Taking a part in being a producer instead of always a consumer helps you be even more grateful for the many blessings in your life.
When Arthur and I were sophomores in college, we started an online cooking show called…

Picnic & Prayers
P had a birthday last week, and she had quite an interesting adventure request for her birthday…
We were planning on going to the local wildlife center until about a couple of days before when she changed her mind. She wanted to go to the Catholic cemetery.
“The cemetery, on your birthday?! Why??”
“To have a picnic, Mama, and pray for all the souls whose bodies are there!”
“Seems a bit morbid, but if that’s what you’d like to do…”
We tried suggesting other possible adventures to change her mind leading up to the day, but she stuck fast to the plan. We were to pick up a grilled cheese from one of her favorite restaurants, bake & bring her cake with us, and go to the cemetery to picnic and pray.
We have a fair amount of family buried in our Catholic cemetery from well over a hundred years ago so we visited their graves among many others. The two babies’ graves in our family plot made her really stop and think. She asked to go pray for them one last time before we left. Then we headed to @saintsandshamrocks to pick out some birthday gifts and blow out the candles with Mrs. Hope (the owner who Piper adores!).
It was an interesting way to celebrate a 5th birthday to say the least. Our girl is something else.
Eternal Father, I offer You the most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen.
Catholic Wives Workshop

It appears that in our modern world there is a disconnect between what God designed marriage to be and how it is lived out. I’ve been giving talks all year to high school senior girls about what it means to be a Catholic, a Catholic wife, and a Catholic mother. In their context, they aren’t married yet so we touch on finding the one in today’s crazy world and discerning if he is the one, but these talks are easily adaptable to those of us who are already married. Which has led me to this.
How many of us have a basic prayer life?
How many of us understand what it means to submit to our husbands & why we should?
How many of us live out our calling as the body of Christ in our domestic churches?
How many of us truly, unapologetically respect and honor our husbands?
The final battle is on marriage and the family.
Please share. Any woman who desires to be married or is married is welcome.
God willing, this will be a quarterly event. This first one will cover individual prayer and spousal prayer.
Nursing babies and children 3 and under are welcome, but this is a workshop for women to have a minute to look inward so we ask that older children stay home.
We do have a bi-monthly family ministry at our home called Farm to Jesus, and we’d love for you and your family to join us! www.farmtojesus.com
As this is currently planned at my house in the Sandfly neighborhood in Savannah, Georgia, it will be an outside event. Please send me your email address (or sign up on the sign up form below) so that I can send you the address and more information as the date gets closer.
Thank you!
Kira King
We look forward to seeing you there!
UPDATE 3/26:
Hey y’all!
I know with Holy Week schedules will be busting, but I wanted to send out a quick reminder for the Wives Workshop we’re hosting next Saturday at our house in the Sandfly area of Savannah. We hope to do these quarterly. This first one is on prayer/what does a basic prayer life mean. I’ve been speaking to the seniors at St. Vincent’s Academy since October on the vocation of marriage and motherhood, and I’m adapting those talks to prayerfully fit the needs of women who are discerning marriage or who are already married. You may already be well-versed in these topics, but even so, I encourage you to think about joining us to help be a mentor to the younger wives/mothers! The next one will be on community (probably in July/August), but every talk in the series builds upon the last one.
Please share to whoever you think would enjoy and/or benefit! There is no cost to attend, and we’re providing lunch. It should be a wonderful couple of hours!
* Also, I’ve compiled the talks I’ve given at SVA into a book that is in front of a few publishers for consideration. Two in particular have passed it through their first submission step, so I appreciate any prayers you can spare for it! My only desire is for it to be helpful and to give young women growing up in this crazy culture hope.
*If you’ve already emailed me to sign up, I have you down on the list and will send you the address and more details a couple days before the event.
Thank y’all!
– Kira
